Greek police raid Acharnes neighborhoods, arrest 14 and cut illegal power lines

A large‑scale police operation was carried out on the morning of 3 July 2026 in the Acharnes municipality of western Attica. Units from the Western Attica Police Directorate, the Crime Investigation Sub‑directorate, the Special Anti‑Crime Unit, the Traffic Directorate and the municipal police took part, supported by a surveillance drone.

The raid targeted several Roma settlements and resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals. Prosecutors opened cases against them for electricity theft, traffic law violations and disturbing public peace. Police documented 19 traffic offences, seized four vehicle registration licences and three driving licences, and confiscated two high‑power speakers.

Electricity‑theft investigators from DEDDIE removed 715 metres of illegal cables used for power theft and identified twelve separate incidents of unlawful electricity consumption. All resulting files have been forwarded to the competent prosecutorial authority.
