Greek political leaders clash over economic policy at Thessaloniki International Fair

Political tensions in Greece have intensified following the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), with opposition leaders and the government clashing over economic policy and the cost of living.

Nikos Androulakis, president of PASOK, delivered a keynote speech at the TIF criticizing the current administration's economic model. He argued that the economy has failed to become more productive or equitable, noting that one in five citizens faces economic hardship. Androulakis also highlighted the demographic crisis, citing the closure of numerous nurseries as evidence of population decline, and challenged the government on its handling of foreign policy risks.

Meanwhile, the government is focused on demonstrating the tangible benefits of the measures announced at the TIF to combat inflation. Officials are emphasizing the impact on the middle class, who have been heavily affected by the crisis. The administration is also engaging in political debate regarding the fiscal feasibility of opposition promises, questioning how much their proposed policies would cost and how they would be funded.
