Thanasis Karteros sparks political row over comments on Nikos Androulakis
A political controversy has erupted in Greece following an article by journalist and close associate of Alexis Tsipras, Thanasis Karteros, in which he questioned the competence of PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis by asking, ‘is Androulakis a fool in the end?’
Karteros has responded to the backlash from PASOK by asserting his editorial independence, stating, ‘My pen is my own, my signature is my own, my responsibility is my own.’ He maintains his criticism of Androulakis, questioning his political alliances and strategy for change.
Members of the Greek Leftist Alliance (ELAS) have expressed varying reactions. Giorgos Siakantaris criticized the lack of condemnation from ELAS supporters regarding the tone of the article, calling it a ‘disgrace’ that such language is used in print. Conversely, Marizeta Antonopoulou, an ELAS official, defended Karteros’s right to an autonomous journalistic voice while noting that political debates should remain focused on policy rather than personal attacks.
