Greek ports face administrative delays and infrastructure challenges
Greek maritime infrastructure faces various administrative and legal delays affecting several key ports. The international tender for the concession of Elefsina Port remains unannounced due to unresolved issues regarding shipwreck removal and basin deepening.
Decisions from the Council of State are pending for the ports of Volos and Lavrio. For Volos, the council will determine if the port authority will be transferred to the Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTH) or if the current tender will be canceled. Regarding Lavrio, decisions are expected concerning which companies will remain in the bidding process.
In contrast, the listed port authorities of Piraeus and Thessaloniki are successfully managing investments and financial operations despite geopolitical shifts in maritime corridors. Meanwhile, the Panhellenic Federation of Merchant Marine Captains has formally requested information from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy regarding actions taken to address reported issues in Aegean and Ionian Sea ports. In response to recent concerns, Minister Vasilis Kikilias announced the completion of 13 infrastructure upgrade projects totaling 78.4 million euros.
