Crete and Aegean islands face severe flooding and storm damage FAST-MOVING

Severe weather is impacting Greece, with Crete and the Aegean islands facing significant damage from heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and high winds. In Crete, torrential rains have caused flash floods, particularly in the Mylopotamos region, where villages like Zoniana and Livadia have experienced water entering homes and power outages. A shepherd drowned in the mountainous hinterland of Crete, and in the Rethymno area, rainfall reached extreme levels.

On the island of Rhodes, a 58-year-old German tourist was killed by a lightning strike while walking on a beach near Lindos, and her husband was slightly injured.

In the Aegean, strong winds of 8 to 9 Beaufort have disrupted ferry services, leading to travel bans from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, and Lavrio. Civil Protection remains on high alert as the Greek Weather Service warns that these intense weather conditions are expected to persist through Sunday.
