Greek Presidency staff to receive special duties allowance

A new decision has been issued regarding a “special duties allowance” for personnel serving at the Presidency of the Republic in Greece. According to Government Gazette B’ 5245/21-8-2026, the allowance is set to be applied retroactively from July 1, 2026.

The monthly amounts vary based on the role: personnel in the Special Offices of the Presidency can receive up to 300 euros, while senior officers in the Military Office are entitled to 200 euros, and other staff members will receive 150 euros. Annually, these payments can reach up to 3,600 euros for the highest tier.

The decision has sparked debate regarding social equity and public sector compensation. Critics point to the contrast between these increases for presidential staff and the ongoing demands from broader public sector employees for the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th month salaries, as well as the financial struggles faced by low-income pensioners.
