Greek Presidential Guard leads OXI Day ceremony in Sydney

The Hellenic Presidential Guard, known as the Evzones, participated in an OXI Day commemoration at the ANZAC Memorial in Sydney's Hyde Park on October 25, 2026. The ceremony, hosted by the Kalymnian Association of NSW, marked the 86th anniversary of Greece's rejection of the Axis ultimatum on October 28, 1940.

The event honored the shared wartime history between Greece and Australia, specifically remembering the Australian servicemen who fought alongside Greek forces during the campaigns in Greece and Crete in 1941. The procession included community members in traditional dress and students from All Saints Grammar, St Euphemia College, and St Spyridon College, who performed the national anthems of both nations.

Supported by the Hellenic Club Sydney and the NSW Government, the ceremony served as a display of cultural pride and remembrance for the Greek Australian community. George Karantonis, Vice President of the Kalymnian Association of NSW, served as the master of ceremonies.
