Greek land registry overhaul set for full completion by 2026

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that Greece’s long‑standing land‑registry backlog has been resolved, describing the reform as a historic step toward transparency, speed and security. Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Katziadakis detailed that cadastral coverage rose from 28% in 2019 to 65% by the end of 2020 and now reaches 99% of the country, with the number of registered rights tripling to 7.4 million. The government plans to finish the digital land‑registry by 2026 and to create a comprehensive digital map by 2030, leveraging artificial‑intelligence tools to monitor building activity.

The reform is also framed as a political cornerstone for the New Democracy party ahead of the 2027 elections, under the “Agenda 2030” programme that links the registry completion to broader economic growth, housing, family support and regional development initiatives.
