Greek PM Mitsotakis outlines national AI strategy at Pnyx

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with venture‑capitalist Hemant Taneja at an Endeavor Greece event on the historic Pnyx hill. He presented Greece as a test‑bed for artificial‑intelligence research, development and production, stressing that the country aims to host pilot projects with major AI firms.

Mitsotakis warned that the rapid pace of AI could disrupt employment, education, social cohesion and personal relationships. He cited concrete examples such as a “digital nurse” that would handle routine tasks in health care, AI‑assisted lesson planning with OpenAI, and the use of AI to preserve Greek dialects and cultural heritage through a partnership with ElevenLabs. The government’s national AI strategy, drafted with input from MIT professor Konstantinos Daskalakis, also includes collaboration with satellite‑imaging company ICEYE and a focus on building domestic AI capabilities rather than only importing technology.
