Greece ranks fourth in French extra virgin olive oil imports

Greece ranked as the fourth largest supplier of extra virgin olive oil to the French market in 2025, accounting for 2.13% of the total import value and 1.59% of the volume. According to a study by the Greek Embassy’s Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs in Paris, Greek olive oil maintains a higher average declared value of 7.24 euros per kilogram, compared to the overall French import average of 5.39 euros per kilogram. This price premium is cited as evidence of the product’s high-quality positioning.

Despite a 3.1% increase in exported quantities, reaching 1,351.6 tons, the total value of Greek exports to France fell by 22.8% to 9.79 million euros. This decline in revenue is attributed to a 25.1% drop in the average price per kilogram compared to 2024.

The French market remains dominated by Spain, which holds a 55.9% share of imported quantities, followed by Italy and Tunisia. To increase market penetration, the report suggests that Greek producers should focus on branded products, e-commerce, and utilizing Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) certifications.
