Greek Attica residents back VAT and fuel tax cuts
A Pulse RC survey commissioned by the Athens Chamber of Commerce interviewed 832 eligible voters in the Attica region between 14‑20 July. The poll found that 83 % of respondents support lowering the value‑added tax on basic goods and reducing the special consumption tax on fuel as a way to curb inflation. At the same time, 61 % expressed pessimism about the Greek economy’s outlook.
The study also asked participants to evaluate the new price‑comparison app “Poso Kanei”. Opinions were split, with 32 % rating it positively, 49 % negatively and the remainder neutral. The chamber’s president, Giannis Chatzitheodosiou, said the results send a strong message to the government, which has so far rejected tax cuts, that indirect‑tax reductions are widely demanded and could help contain prices and boost purchasing power.
