Greek Red Cross launches second phase medical aid mission to earthquake‑hit Venezuela
On the morning of 12 July 2026, the Greek Red Cross dispatched its second humanitarian phase from Eleftherios Venizelos airport. The team comprises seven experienced nurses equipped with medical supplies, sent to the earthquake‑stricken areas of Venezuela.
The nurses are stationed in the devastated La Guaira region, supporting the national health system and mobile hospitals that have been set up after the quake. Their work aims to assist more than 16 000 displaced residents and reinforce ongoing efforts by the Venezuelan Red Cross.
This operation is the first organized humanitarian mission from Greece to Venezuela and the only European national Red Cross society to have sent aid there, undertaken using the Greek Red Cross’s own resources despite economic and logistical challenges.
