Greek religious leaders issue messages for the new academic year

Greek religious leaders have issued messages to students, parents, and educators to mark the beginning of the 2026-2027 academic year.

Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens presided over the blessing ceremony at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Reflecting on his own history as a student and lecturer at the institution, he offered wishes for health and strength to faculty and students. He emphasized the vital role of educators in shaping the nation's youth.

In separate messages, the Archbishop addressed primary, middle, and high school students, urging them to foster unity and kindness. He encouraged children to support classmates who may feel isolated, stating that school is a place for both knowledge and learning how to love and help one another.

Additionally, Metropolitan Kallinikos of Arta sent a message to the school community, calling on students to embrace curiosity and lifelong learning. He highlighted the importance of cultivating values such as justice, kindness, and respect for others, noting that true education flourishes when these virtues are present.
