Greek retirees to receive refunds via e‑EFKA online platform

From 1 July 2024 a special e‑EFKA portal (efka.gov.gr) began accepting electronic applications for the annual settlement and repayment of contributions that working retirees have overpaid. The refunds are not retroactive payments but reimbursements of amounts paid beyond the legal ceiling. Applicants must log in with their Taxisnet credentials, provide their AMKA number and bank details, and can select the reference year – 2024 or 2025 – for which they seek repayment. The system will process refunds periodically using automated rules.

The measure follows a 37 % rise in the number of employed retirees over the past year, reaching 246,579, after the penalty on pension earnings was removed. Officials also indicated that larger pension indexations are being prepared because of higher‑than‑expected inflation, and discussions are ongoing about incentives for retirees to return to public‑sector jobs.

Five key points for applicants are emphasized: correct reference year, correct Taxisnet code, accurate AMKA entry, correct bank data, and monitoring any possible set‑off against outstanding debts.
