Prophet Elissaios honored on June 14 in Greek Orthodox calendar

On Sunday, 14 June, the Greek Orthodox calendar marks the commemoration of the Prophet Elissaios and Saint Nifonos of Athos. The names celebrated that day include Elissaios, Elissó, Elissò and Nifonos.

According to the traditional account, Prophet Elissaios, a disciple of Prophet Elijah, performed miracles. One story recounts a widow who, left with only an empty jar of oil, was advised by Elissaios to borrow many empty jars, fill them with her own oil, and sell the surplus to pay her debts. He later died during the reign of King Joash and was buried in Samaria.

The following day, 15 June, the calendar commemorates Saint Augustine of Hippo, Saint Vitus, Saint Ieronimos, Saint Geronimos, Saint Monika and others, as well as World Fertility Day and World Wind Day.
