Greek Shipping Minister Visits Chalkida Shipyards to Discuss Expansion

Greek Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilis visited the Chalkida Shipyards on 16 July, accompanied by Central Greece Governor Fanis Spanos and several members of parliament. During the tour he inspected the facilities, met with shipyard workers and the chief executive of Chalkida Shipyards, Asraf Bagyomi, and received briefings on current projects and future plans.

The minister highlighted the shipyard’s role in the local economy, noting that its operations support roughly 600 families. He stressed the potential for further growth by linking the shipyard’s activities with the planned new commercial port, describing a 25‑year development vision that includes expanding the yard’s capacity, building a larger fuel tank, and attracting additional investment to boost both shipbuilding and regional employment.
