Greek Small Businesses urged to adopt digital tools for growth

The president of the General Confederation of Trades of Crafts and Merchants of Greece says digital transition is a critical factor for the development of small enterprises. By adopting tools such as electronic invoicing, artificial intelligence, online payments and an internet presence, firms can boost productivity, cut costs and improve competitiveness.

Small businesses make up the backbone of the Greek economy, encompassing family units, retail shops, offices, workshops and service providers. Their digitalisation is now viewed as essential for survival and growth rather than an optional upgrade. Recommended first steps include electronic invoicing, digital file organization, electronic payments, website presence, reservation systems, customer‑relationship tools and data‑driven decision‑making.

Challenges cited are the upfront cost of technology, limited time for owners who manage multiple roles, lack of digital skills and entrenched operational habits. Overcoming these obstacles requires proper adaptation and support to ensure the digital shift translates into immediate operational benefits.
