Greek Super League: Referee debates and Panathinaikos match postponement
Developments in the Greek Stoiximan Super League involve both officiating discussions and scheduling changes. There is a growing call for Greek referees to be permitted to officiate high-stakes derbies. Following strong performances by referees such as Alexandros Tsakalidis, Angelos Evangelou, and Tasos Papapetrou in recent cup and Super Cup matches, arguments are being made that domestic officials are ready for major league fixtures. This follows a period where foreign referees have been prioritized for matches involving the league's top four clubs.
Separately, Panathinaikos has exercised its right to postpone its season opener against Kifisia, originally scheduled for August 23. The postponement is intended to accommodate the club's UEFA Conference League playoff matches against Hradets Králové on August 20 and 27. While previous postponements in the league have led to long delays, officials are looking to reschedule the match in September, potentially coordinating with the Greek Cup schedule to find a suitable window.
