Greek Super League to use domestic referees in derby games
Stefanos Lanoua, president of the Hellenic Referees’ Committee (KED), has submitted a proposal to the Professional Football Committee of the Greek Super League to appoint Greek referees for the five major derby matches between AEK, Aris, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and PAOK. The plan calls for foreign VAR and AVAR officials to assist, with the referees’ performances evaluated throughout the season.
The proposal, which aligns with UEFA guidance to use domestic referees in national competitions, has been sent to the clubs and will be examined by the committee before a final decision is expected by the end of July. Additional meetings are scheduled for December and before the playoffs to decide whether the same model will be applied in the championship’s final phase.
