Greek supermarkets implement price reductions via national initiative
Major Greek supermarket chains, including Sklavenitis, AB Vassilopoulos, Masoutis, and My Market, are participating in a National Initiative to reduce prices on essential goods. According to the Independent Authority for the Supervision of Competitions and Consumer Protection, these efforts could lead to an average monthly saving of up to 39 euros per household.
Supermarket strategies vary by retailer. Sklavenitis has implemented 5% to 6% reductions on 50 branded products. Other chains, such as Masoutis, AB Vassilopoulos, and My Market, are focusing heavily on private label products. Masoutis leads in this category with 111 different items, offering average reductions exceeding 10% and reaching up to 22% in certain categories.
Significant price cuts are also being applied to fresh meats and school supplies. Masoutis has reported reductions of up to 28% on fresh meats and an average reduction of 20% on school supplies, such as notebooks and paper, to assist families with seasonal expenses.
