SYRIZA faces internal split as leaders push for unified progressive ballot

Greek left‑wing party SYRIZA is confronting a severe internal crisis, with poll numbers sinking to around 1‑1.5 %. Party figures including Sokratis Famellos, Nikos Pappas and Pavlos Polakis have debated the party’s direction, urging that SYRIZA should not confront the more moderate ELAS coalition but cooperate with it. Polakis criticised Famellos for what he sees as leadership inertia and called for an immediate halt to the party’s “fluidisation” and a re‑organisation for the upcoming elections.

The party’s Central Committee released a 36‑point proposal demanding an end to any move toward dissolution, the formation of a minimum programme agreement, and the creation of three committees: one to draft a joint progressive ballot, another to develop a policy programme, and a third to organise election logistics. The proposal calls for SYRIZA to remain a viable political force and to participate in a unified progressive front, avoiding a “winter coma” while preparing for the next parliamentary term.
