Greek SYRIZA party racked by internal disputes and accusations

SYRIZA parliamentary representative Kostas Barkas posted a sharp criticism of party officials, accusing unnamed members of actions that "harm the party" and describing past “extortion” and “poulēn” tactics. He warned that, amid a critical moment, he would not “play tennis like the others” but would judge the misconduct continuing within the party.

In a separate angry statement, party spokesman Chrystos Giannoulis denounced what he called “tolerance of physical violence” among SYRIZA ranks. He referred to a confrontation at the party’s Kummoundouros office, where senior figures, including Pavlos Polakis, allegedly pressured the deputy secretary‑general Anastasia Sapouna to convene the central committee, leading to heated exchanges and accusations of intimidation.

Both posts highlight escalating tensions within SYRIZA, with members publicly questioning leadership decisions and accusing colleagues of unethical behaviour.
