Syriza rejects dissolution and backs alliance with Tsipras' ELAS

During a Central Committee meeting of Syriza, party president Socrates Famelos asked members whether the party should stand “next to or opposite the initiative of Alexis Tsipras.” He answered that Syriza will be “next to” the new Greek Left Alliance (ELAS) and urged members to work toward a unified progressive electoral list.

Former minister Nikos Pappas stressed that “the assets of Syriza are not being sold” and that the party “does not self‑dissolve.” He called for a coordinated path to electoral unity, proposing concrete steps such as re‑activating the executive office, creating committees for expansion, programme drafting and electoral organization.

MP Pavlos Polakis warned that the real dilemma is “whether Syriza exists or not,” opposing any scenario of fluidisation or dissolution and submitting a petition signed by a minority of delegates. A small group of members also signed a petition rejecting dissolution.

The leadership criticised the ruling government and other parties while presenting the alliance with ELAS as a positive development for the progressive space, aiming to influence the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
