Greek team wins four medals at 37th International Biology Olympiad
The Greek national delegation secured four medals – one silver and three bronze – at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held from 12 to 18 July 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The silver medal, earned by Apostolos Vasilikos, marks the second silver in the country’s IBO history, while Socrates Visvardis, Charilaos Michalopoulos and Theodore Stavroulakis each took bronze. Greece’s total haul now stands at two silver and 23 bronze medals over its participation since 2005. About 340 participants from 85 nations competed, and the Greek team was selected through the national biology competition organized by the Panhellenic Association of Biologists under the Ministry of Education.
The achievement was highlighted by the Association, noting that an initial report of four bronze medals was corrected after Greek delegates identified a scoring error, upgrading Vasilikos’s award to silver.
