Greek theater presents Euripides classic and immersive darkness experience

The 55th Olympian Festival was held at the Ancient Theatre of Diou, where director Savvas Stroumpas staged a stripped‑down production of Euripides' tragedy Iphigenia in Tauris. The performance highlighted timeless themes of power, sacrifice and war, while the historic venue added a unique resonance.

From 21 October, the Theatre Argos offered an experimental immersive show called “The Darkness”, conceived and directed by Odysseas Papaspiliopoulos. Based on Maurice Maeterlinck’s play The Blind, the piece places the audience in total darkness, urging them to rely on hearing, touch and memory to confront fear and uncertainty.

Both events illustrate a vibrant Greek cultural scene that blends classical repertoire with avant‑garde theatrical techniques.
