Greek theatres announce new productions of Cocteau and Euripides

The Alkmini Theatre is presenting a third-year return of Jean Cocteau’s classic one-act play, ‘The Human Voice’. Translated by Marios Ploritis and directed by Manolis Ionas, the production explores a woman’s emotional struggle during a breakup via telephone. This specific adaptation draws inspiration from the lead actress’s real-life health journey, focusing on the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis and the role of social support systems during such crises.

Separately, the Kolonos Open Air Theatre will host a production of Euripides’ ‘Ion’ on September 11. Based on a version by Minas Vidiadis and directed by Rubini Moschochoriti, the play features a cast of three actors. The story follows the complex relationship between Creusa, Ion, and Xuthus, navigating themes of fate, ignorance, and eventual catharsis within the mythological setting of the Temple of Apollo in Delphi.
