Greek traditional dance festivals showcase regional heritage

The 18th Festival of Traditional Dances “Summer & Culture” was held on July 3‑4 in the central square of Kanali, Preveza. Organized by the Cultural Association of Kanali with the Municipality of Preveza, the event attracted hundreds of dancers, musicians and visitors from across Greece. Its theme, “Bridges of Memory: Dance and Song as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece,” highlighted the preservation of regional folk traditions, with performances ranging from Epirus to the Aegean islands and involvement of local youth groups.

The 12th International Festival of Andros will run from July 25 to August 24 2026 in the Open Theatre of Andros. Under artistic director Pantelis Bulgari, the programme includes concerts, theatre productions, film screenings and workshops for all ages. Highlights feature a opening concert by Aleka Kanellidou, a premiere of “Happy Days,” a first‑time documentary screening, and a classical music concert in the courtyard of the Byzantine Church of Taxiarchi Messaria. The festival is organized by the Friends of the Festival of Andros with support from the Municipality of Andros, aiming to provide a high‑level cultural experience for residents and visitors.
