Greek tragedies revived in Italy with Eurydice, Ecuba
A modern staging of the Eurydice myth titled “Aidone, Eurydice” was presented at the ancient theatre of Morgantina. Directed by Filippa Ilardo and starring Elisa Di Dio, the performance re‑imagines Eurydice as the central figure, exploring themes of life, death and personal agency through contemporary music and visual design.
In Tivoli, the Sanctuary of Hercules Victorious hosted a production of Euripides’ Ecuba, starring Paola Quattrini under the direction of Livio Galassi. The play is part of the inaugural “Heroides – Donne che svelano la fragilità degli eroi” series, supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture and running until 8 August. Both events highlight the revival of classical Greek tragedies in Italy with a focus on female protagonists.
