Greek TV Host George Liagas Warns of Programme Cuts and Industry Decline

Television presenter George Liagas voiced criticism of recent trends in Greek broadcasting, stating that several TV programmes are being cancelled without replacement. He emphasized that the reduction in airtime harms workers and signals a broader weakening of the medium. While denying opposition to platforms such as YouTube, podcasts or vidcasts, Liagas said his concern is the “decline” of traditional television and its impact on employment.

He argued that advertising shifts to online media lower television’s revenue, leading to cost‑cutting measures that threaten the future of mainstream TV production in Greece.
