Greek uniformed services renew demands for wage increases

Uniformed personnel, including police, firefighters, coast guards, and military members, have reaffirmed their demands following a large-scale mobilization in Thessaloniki. The movement follows a period of mourning for two Air Force officers.

The group is responding to recent government announcements regarding public sector wages. Proposed measures include a gross salary increase of 80 euros between April 2027 and January 2028 due to minimum wage adjustments, and a permanent annual financial boost of 500 euros starting in 2027, functioning similarly to a Christmas bonus.

Despite these measures, the federation maintains that these steps do not compensate for the loss of bonuses abolished in 2012. Key ongoing demands include the restoration of the 13th and 14th month salaries, the abolition of the solidarity contribution for the unemployed, unified retirement frameworks for those hired after 2011, and increased compensation for night shifts and specific service duties.
