Greek Universities Featured in QS World University Rankings 2027

The University of Patras was placed in the 771–780 band of the QS World University Rankings 2027, ranking fifth among Greek institutions and remaining within the global top 10% for the fifth consecutive year.

Overall, Greece now has ten universities listed among the top 1,500 worldwide. Three schools entered the ranking for the first time: Democritus University of Thrace, University of the Aegean and University of Thessaly, each positioned in the 201–400 range. However, several previously higher‑ranked institutions slipped, with the National Technical University of Athens moving out of the top 400 and the University of Athens exiting the top 500, while the University of Crete rose to 307 in academic reputation.

In the EU context, Greece ranks 11th, level with Austria, Belgium and Hungary. Analysts note that although the number of Greek universities appearing in the list has grown, many face intensified competition and challenges in internationalization, research collaboration and academic reputation.
