Greek utility DEDDIE secures EU funding for six Horizon Europe research projects

The Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) received approval from the European Commission to fund six new research projects under the Horizon Europe programme. The projects are in the contracting stage and are slated to start in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The initiatives will see DEDDIE collaborate with other distribution network operators, universities, research institutes and companies across Europe to develop and pilot technologies that address the growing demands of modern electricity distribution networks. The work focuses on three pillars: generative artificial intelligence tools for data analysis and decision‑support (projects GENESIS‑EU and GenAISIS), next‑generation digital substations using digital twins and AI (projects NEXTELAR and GRID‑PRO), and solutions for energy communities that enable greater citizen participation and grid flexibility (projects EU4ENER and ESTIRPE). The funding strengthens DEDDIE’s role in European research and aims to advance digital transformation, resilience and flexibility of distribution networks.
