Greek victims' families decry unsuitable courtroom for Tempi train crash trial

The Association of Relatives of the Tempi Train Disaster victims criticized the courtroom in Thessaloniki as unsuitable for the upcoming trial, alleging that the venue forces families to watch proceedings on a screen and that the heavy police presence, including O.P.K.E. units, creates a hostile atmosphere. They also accused the government and officials of attempting to obscure responsibility for the May 2023 accident that killed 27 passengers.

Association president Pavlos Aslanidis announced that the group will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights, demanding accountability for the victims and questioning why key railway operators and ministry officials have not faced criminal charges. The relatives also rebuked political commentary from the Hope for Democracy party led by Maria Karystiani, calling it a distraction from their quest for truth.
