Greek water management reform plan discussed with New Democracy MPs

Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou met with New Democracy parliamentarians in a series of regional meetings – including representatives from Attica, Boeotia, Phocis, Evia, and Thessaloniki – to present the government’s proposed water‑management reform. The legislation seeks to establish a sustainable, holistic model for water resources by merging about 70 water‑service providers under the public utilities EYDAP and EYATH. EYDAP would expand its operations to an additional 17 municipalities in Attica as well as Boeotia, Phocis and Evia, while EYATH would extend its reach to Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki. The reform aims to protect water resources, upgrade distribution networks and ensure high‑quality, affordable water for all citizens. A new bill incorporating these measures is slated for introduction to the parliament in the coming days.
