Greek water sector faces criticism over draft reforms and delayed Argolida irrigation project

Greek MP Dimitris Mavidis condemned a draft law that seeks to restructure the Municipal Water and Sewerage Enterprises (ΔΕΥΑ) by merging them into anonymous companies such as EYDAP and EYATH. He argued that the proposal lacks scientific studies, has no clear plan for economies of scale, and was pushed forward without genuine consultation with the Union of ΔΕΥΑ, the Regulatory Authority and the affected utilities. Mavidis warned that the reform could fail and that its real aim might be to open water resources to private participation.

In a separate issue, Minister Giorgos Tatoulis delivered a harsh critique of the Argolida irrigation project, which has been stalled for seven and a half years. He highlighted the lengthy delays as a serious setback for regional water infrastructure development.
