Widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds hit Greece in mid‑June 2026

From 17 June to 19 June 2026 Greece will experience a period of unsettled weather. Across most regions cloud cover will increase, with local rain showers and brief thunderstorms, especially in mountainous areas of Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, the Peloponnese and the central mainland. Isolated hail is also possible. Temperatures will remain typical for early summer, ranging from 30 °C to 34 °C in low‑lying areas and slightly cooler in the north.

Winds will generally blow from the north at 3–5 Beaufort, strengthening to 6–8 Bft over the Aegean Sea. An orange civil‑protection alert has been issued for heavy rain and thunderstorms on 12 June, and authorities advise residents to secure loose objects, avoid flooded roads and stay away from exposed trees. The strong northerly winds raise fire‑danger concerns, especially in dry western regions.

Overall conditions are expected to improve by the evening of 19 June, with clearer skies returning to most of the country.
