Greek wine production outlook positive as rains boost vineyards

Stelios Boutaris, president of the Greek Wine Association, said early indications point to a good harvest year after ample rainfall since the start of the year. He noted that while most viticultural zones show satisfactory conditions, localized hail in Manti and Nemea caused damage to vines and fields.

Boutaris added that the situation in Crete and northern Greece remains largely favorable, with only sporadic hail and no major disease issues reported. Despite the optimism, overall wine output stays at historically low levels. For the 2025‑2026 wine year, production is estimated at about 1.65 million hectoliters, a 15‑17 % rise from the previous year but still well below the typical 2‑4 million hectoliters recorded in past decades.
