Greek courts rule on shooting in Kalamata and massive social media stalking case
Two separate criminal cases have reached significant judicial milestones in Greece.
In Kalamata, a 38-year-old man has been placed in pre-trial detention after allegedly shooting twice at his 25-year-old former partner in the city center. The suspect faces charges including attempted murder with intent, domestic threats, and weapons violations. During his two-hour interrogation, he claimed he acted out of intoxication and intended only to intimidate the victim rather than cause harm. Authorities noted that video footage of the attack played a decisive role in the decision to detain him.
In a separate case, the Larissa Court of Appeals upheld a 48-month prison sentence for a 38-year-old woman from Patra. She was found guilty of identity theft and defamation after creating 203 fake social media profiles to harass her former partner, a 37-year-old Air Force pilot from Volos. The court ordered the immediate serving of 12 months of the sentence. The harassment, which began following a brief relationship in 2018, involved the woman using the pilot's name and photos to post abusive and false content to his friends and colleagues.
