Green Balkans proposes bearded vulture as Eurovision symbol

The environmental organization Green Balkans has proposed the bearded vulture as the official symbol for Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Burgas in 2027. The organization suggests the bird represents universal values such as freedom, courage, travel, and hope.

The proposal is inspired by the story of a specific bearded vulture named Boev, who traveled over 14,000 kilometers across Europe before returning to Bulgaria. This narrative is intended to highlight the conservation efforts aimed at restoring the species, which had previously disappeared as a nesting species in the country. The recovery of the vulture is a collaborative international effort involving organizations from more than 10 European nations.

Other suggestions for the Eurovision mascot include the European roller, proposed by the State Puppet Theatre in Burgas, and various bird species from the protected Podra area.
