Green Bay Packers kicker Trey Smack struggles in loss to Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers rookie kicker Trey Smack faced intense scrutiny following a 20-17 loss to the Detroit Lions on October 25, 2026. During the game, Smack missed a 26-yard field goal attempt and had a 35-yard attempt blocked, leaving significant points on the field during critical moments.

Smack, a 2026 sixth-round draft pick, has struggled with consistency this season. He currently holds a 68.8% field goal success rate, making 11 of 16 attempts, which falls below the league average of 84.2%. Notably, all five of his misses this season have occurred from 49 yards or less. His performance follows a season where he has also struggled with extra points, converting 13 of 15 attempts.

Despite the performance and subsequent criticism, head coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Smack’s position on the team remains secure. Following the game, Smack stated that he takes accountability for his mistakes, noting, “It’s a rough loss. I take accountability for my actions.”
