Green Bay Packers eye signing defensive tackle Mazi Smith
The Green Bay Packers held a tryout for defensive tackle Mazi Smith on Monday and are reportedly planning to sign him to their practice squad. Smith, a former first-round pick selected 26th overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2023 NFL draft, is looking to bolster his career after stints with several teams.
Smith previously played for the Cowboys, the New York Jets, and most recently the Miami Dolphins, where he was released last week. During his time in the NFL, he appeared in games for both Dallas and New York.
The Packers are seeking defensive line depth following several roster changes and injuries. Current personnel issues include the loss of Nazir Stackhouse to the Tennessee Titans, the departure of Jaden Crumedy to the Houston Texans, and multiple players, including Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Ford, currently on injured reserve. Signing Smith to the practice squad will require the team to make a corresponding roster move to remain within league limits.
