Josh Jacobs faces accelerated court date amid misdemeanor charges

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has had his initial court appearance moved up to next Thursday, September 10, from its original November date. Jacobs faces two misdemeanor charges—battery and criminal damage to property—stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend in May.

The NFL has placed Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list, which prohibits him from playing or practicing but allows him to continue receiving his salary. The league is currently investigating the situation, and a formal suspension could follow. While Jacobs is unable to participate in team activities, the club has noted he is permitted to attend meetings, individual workouts, and therapy at the facility.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst expressed support for the player, stating they trust him and will let the legal process play out. The team is preparing for the possibility of playing the upcoming season without him, with MarShawn Lloyd expected to take a primary role in the running game.
