Green Bay Packers re-sign kicker Lenny Krieg to practice squad

The Green Bay Packers are re-signing German-born kicker Lenny Krieg to the practice squad to fill an international spot. Krieg, who transitioned from soccer to American football via the NFL’s International Player Pathway program, was previously released to make room for a long snapper but is returning following the conclusion of training camp.

Krieg joins rookie kicker Trey Smack, a sixth-round draft pick from Florida. Smack faces a difficult historical trend for NFL kickers; between 2016 and 2023, only three drafted kickers remained with their original teams for at least three full seasons. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst noted that kickers often lack the development grace period afforded to other positions, frequently moving between teams before finding stability.
