Green building initiatives expand in Southeast Asia
GreenViet is expanding its role in the Southeast Asian green building sector, leveraging expertise in construction, environmental science, M&E, energy, and architecture. The company has participated in nearly 300 projects, implementing various green certifications such as LEED, LOTUS, Green Mark, EDGE, WELL, Fitwel, and Earthcheck. According to CEO Nguyen Thi Huong Thu, developers are increasingly adopting green building standards to strengthen sustainable brand identities, while financial institutions are beginning to use these criteria as metrics for lending.
In Singapore, urban greenery is integrated into public and civil infrastructure planning from the initial stages. The National Parks Board provides specific guidelines for greening structures like bridge pillars, utilizing stainless steel mesh and designated planting strips to ensure safety and aesthetics. Maintaining this greenery requires significant investment; the National Parks Board reported approximately 163 million SGD in park maintenance costs for the 2024 fiscal year.
