Green Card insurance system pays over 200 million Liras in compensation
More than 200 million Turkish Liras in compensation has been paid out through the Green Card insurance system. This international motor vehicle insurance card protects individuals harmed in accidents caused by motorists traveling between participating countries.
In Turkey, the Green Card acts as the equivalent of mandatory traffic insurance, providing coverage within the legal framework, scope, and limits of the country where the accident occurs. The system facilitates travel by allowing a single document to be used across multiple countries.
The Türkiye Motorlu Taşıt Bürosu (TMTB) manages the system's operations in Turkey, acting as a guarantor for damages arising from insurance documents issued by its member companies. It also intervenes on behalf of Green Card insurers to settle damages caused to third parties by foreign-plated vehicles within Turkey.
Documents can be obtained through authorized insurance companies, agencies, border crossing offices, or the Türkiye Turing ve Otomobil Kurumu (Turing) bureaus. On average, foreign-plated vehicles with Green Card insurance are involved in approximately 2,500 accidents in Turkey annually.
