Green Day delivers surprise performances at San Diego Comic-Con

During the opening weekend of San Diego Comic-Con, unexpected musical moments captured fans' attention. On July 23, rock legend Bruce Dickinson joined Billie Joe Armstrong’s cover band The Coverups onstage at the Fandom Party, delivering a rendition of Mott the Hoople’s “All The Young Dudes,” a song Dickinson originally recorded for his 1990 solo album.

The following day, Green Day themselves staged a surprise set atop a decorated ice‑cream truck at Gallagher Square. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong performed “Basket Case” while bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool joined in, tossing ice‑cream, T‑shirts and cassette tapes to the crowd. The stunt promoted the band’s coming‑of‑age film “Nimrods,” slated for release in the United Kingdom on August 11 and in the United States on August 14, with a soundtrack featuring new tracks and unreleased live recordings.
