Green Harvest Stuff calls for increased cassava investment in Nigeria

Joshua Apeh, Executive Director of Green Harvest Stuff, has advocated for increased investment in the production, processing, and value addition of cassava to drive economic transformation in Nigeria.

Speaking at a Farmers Awareness and Mobilisation Programme in Otukpo, Apeh described cassava as the ‘crude oil’ of the people, noting its potential to transform farmer fortunes and support renewable energy industries, such as bioethanol production. He emphasized that moving beyond simple production to industrializing cassava products could reduce dependence on imported fuel and strengthen rural economies.

Apeh urged the Federal Government to study the Green Harvest model for potential replication across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to achieve food security and create employment for young people. He cited countries like Thailand as examples of nations that have successfully benefited from cassava processing and value addition.
