Green Hawks to make Nigeria’s netball debut in Kenya

Nigeria’s national netball team, the Green Hawks, is set to make its international competitive debut at the Africa Netball Championship in Nairobi, Kenya. The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia.

The Green Hawks will face hosts Kenya in their opening Pool 2 match at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. The team, which includes players from the Nigerian diaspora in England, was assembled following the establishment of the Nigeria Netball Federation in February.

Head coach Alison Akinrinsola, a former England international, noted that the team has undergone preparations in London with matches against Jamaica, Pakistan, and Scotland. Nigeria Netball Federation President Dr. Esther Oluwatoyin Aluko and officials from the National Sports Commission have highlighted the importance of this milestone in establishing the country on the international netball stage.
