Chile advances green hydrogen and maritime electromobility

Chile is accelerating its energy transition through strategic investments in green hydrogen, clean molecules, and zero-emission transport. Industry leaders and academic institutions are working to bridge the gap between announced projects and actual implementation by addressing regulatory, financial, and technological barriers.

Key initiatives include the development of green maritime corridors and port infrastructure, drawing on expertise from Germany and the Netherlands for hydrogen derivatives like green ammonia and e-methanol. In the maritime sector, the launch of the Magellan Discoverer—the continent’s first hybrid-electric cruise ship—in Valdivia marks a significant milestone in decarbonizing local shipping.

The Institute of Clean Technologies (ITL) and H2 Chile are facilitating collaboration to reduce the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) and improve project bankability through shared infrastructure and real-world testing environments.
