Green hydrogen research and e-fuel testing advance in Uruguay

In Uruguay, the Technological University (UTEC) and the University of the Republic (Udelar) have inaugurated a pilot plant in Durazno dedicated to green hydrogen research. The facility features a hydride compressor, a unique technology in Latin America, which will allow for the study of hydrogen applications ranging from small-scale electromobility—such as drones and bicycles—to the production of synthetic fuels and fertilizers.

In a related development in the sector, HIF Global has demonstrated its e-fuels in several international automotive events, including Monterey Car Week in California and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Europe. These tests utilized synthetic fuels produced at the Haru Oni plant in Punta Arenas, Chile, to show that modern, racing, and historic vehicles can operate on e-fuels without requiring engine or infrastructure modifications.
